Such a vague title- are they judging the worst characters or the worst animation? Also, am I the only one here who didn't hate episode's one through three and who accepted that Jar-Jar was SUPPOSED to be annoying and got over it?
I agree with your point about Jar-Jar, but as Hulk?At no point did the Hulk character look convincing; it screamed CGI in every scene it was in. The dogs I remember disliking for the same reason. The only point they got away with it was when Hulk was jumping around the Grand Canyon, Hidden-Tiger-Crouching-Dragon-style. It didn't look "realistic", but it fitted with the style of the scene. Everywhere else, in more conventional surroundings, it just looked fake.
Whilst the CGI Neo was only a problem in a few scenes, I agree that they should have done them better. The major problem IMHO was Keanu Reeves' wooden acting. In the first film, Neo wasn't a character so much as an iconic blank canvas. (It surprises me that no-one seems to comment on this). That's not a problem; on the contrary, it was a strength of the film, and Reeves is really in this role. (This isn't meant as a backhanded compliment; that it avoided exposing his weak areas is convenient, but tangential).Problem came when they got to the second movie; Neo had to move on, and become a real person. Unfortunately, it didn't work; Reeves' acting and crap dialogue being two major reasons. He was even worse in the third one. Wooden, wooden, wooden.
What twit thinks that Jar-Jar was descent CG?!? "but we can't ignore the quality of the animation." Are you serious? Compared to Hulk, which was excellent by the way AND INTENDED to look comic-bookish, Jar-Jar was a kindergarten macaroni card. The textures were sub par, motion and dexterity was horrible and I've seen better facial expressions on a sock puppet. Next time you review CG characters please at least pretend to have some actual experience.
Actually there is really no way to make a character with bright green skin become muted in a scene. The article makes it seem like it was horrible that he stood out so much. Bright green skin and purple shorts don't color match well in most of the scenes.

My daughter watches the Barbie 3D movies. It reminds me of someone's kid doing the animation for a school project.
