You can't use regular XP keys on a corporate edition. How the heck are you supposed to find a non corporate edition of XP if it didn't come with your computer? There isn't one easily found on the pirate bay.

This is merely the beginning. Microsoft is just softening everyone up for Vista. I am sitting here on a MacBook Pro with a Windows partition, I paid for this version of Windows for one of my desktops last year. The license key didn't work for my MacBook Pro install, said it was invalid. Is it wrong for me to have cracked it? Should I really have gone and bought a second license? It just doesn't feel right that I would have to do that, it is like having to get a second drivers license for your second car.

Unless the EULA has specific provisions against it I don't believe that circumventing the WGA would be illegal if you have paid for a legitimate COA.And as far as copying media that you have legitimately purchased (archiving) I suppose it depends on the laws where you live. Some countries allow it and some don't. Personally I think that morally if you pay for a game or video or DVD or software, it should be perfectly legit to make archival copies for personal use and reuse...but then again I'm not a lawyer nor am I associated in any way with the RIAA/MPAA!I agree that 'theft & stealing' seem like strong terms in these instances but I suppose that only a court of law would be in the position of determining if a copyright violation would fit into these categories.

"$85 or $150 is too expensive for something that we just want to use for gaming. The OS should be free, but MS is just greedy."And I suppose you think that the house and clothing (diapers?) and food (Gerber's?) that your parents provide you is free.

You can call eMachine and order a new disc, it costs like $10.00 - $20.00 for the replacement disc.

"You can get $36,000 for turning him in."It's a site license, idiot. The university PAID for it.

Ya know,I have read almost all the posts here about the activation bit. I am soooo close to Linux, man. My gripe is that if I have to reinstall my OS due to a crash,or some other catastroph,I should be able, for the price of XP,to reinstall it,..more than once if need be. My husband has the bought disc, and it was activated on his computer. I got a computer, and we cant use it on the new one,due to the fact that it was already activated. That's a lot of money for one computer system. )Linux ix free, mind you.)Now,I cant use the OS on my new computer, since it is damaged. If I want to have an OS,I have to fork out the huge Windows price again. Bullhockey. I'm going for Linux. Yes,it is a bit more complicated, but for the price,..I'll learn to use it,and damn be to MS.

Oh,..and,..I tried to go to the Windows website for support, but it costs $35.00 to speak to an associate. I'm sooooo annoyed right now. When I tried to email for support, each link,..only for the email sections, didnt work. Of all places for a link not to work, you weouldnt think it would be the place where Microsoft lives. Sigh,..cant wait for my Linux disc to get here.
