I would imagine there is a much better community on the bnet servers, and since community is the whole point of a mmorpg these servers aren't really anything to get excited about.
i WOULD laught at the people who sink 6 months into their character, only to have their 'private server' shut down, and their character be worth about as much as the crap they just flushed down the toilet. i say i WOULD laugh, but ill be too busy playing on a legit server. Because that's so much less embarassing than sinking years of play into your official wow characters only to have the game shut down years later when no one plays it anymore. I think it would be good for you WoW addicts if Blizzard just deleted all your characters right now. Then your withdrawal would make you realise how serious your problems are.
I played WoW for 3 months. To me, WoW is not worth paying for, despite that it is definitely less than an hour work for me. My $15 is worth more to me being elsewhere. That is why I have stopped (although I was sad about loosing my char, so I didn't kill the subscription right away).Now someone has given me the opportunity to explore pieces of WoW that I did not have the chance to explore before, and they ask nothing in return. I agree, it's buggy, underpopulated and the ethics behind it are questionable (to be light-hearted about it). I'm not looking for a replacement - just for a way to kill an hour every week or so without looking at my bank statement at the end of the month and think to myself "What a waste."

"ill stick to my 15$ a month blah blah" ive never played WoW myself, and unless there is a free way to play in the future (highly doubt it, atleast blizzard putting out a free way) ill buy it. to me, people who buy a pay per month game know whats gonna happen, they are gonna spend all their free time on the game so they will "get their money's worth" me, ill stick with diablo 2, C&C, and CS, also on a kind of side note, i dont like the fact that FF went to a mmorpg with FFOnline*to me its not XI* because it goes against everything they made in the previous games, its all about in-depth storyline, and how can you have an in depth storyline in that type of game? it would just be completing quests, then moving onto the next one...with no "this is the end, you beat the game, congrats" for all your hard work. and before it comes, yes, those kinda games you can beat in 6 hours, but it takes longer than that to get everything in the game, highest lvl, and all of that and if the wow servers *the legit ones* are down alot, or laggy as the d2 servers, or even half that, then i wouldnt even waste the money to buy for the free private servers. and i dont know about you guys, but i dust off the old games an put them back in an play them, but if blizzard gets tired of 'maintaining' the wow servers an shuts them down, well, you wont be able to play them in 5-10 years will you? and all that money woulda been wasted on 1 game + 15 a month (230 first year with purchase. 180 each year after) and you could have used that kinda money to buy the new xbox 360, ps3, or an update for your comp, or 3 games that you COULD play in 5-10 years on a day when your bored with time to kill
well if any one hasn't noticed that the fact stands that WoW has the exact same areas and races as warcraft 3 kinda made me mad that I was hoping for something new and got hosed by blizzard but it is a great game and I cant wait to get back on my game in WoW land the only differance is you want to play for free then warcraft 3 should be your option warcraft3 has like the original you can build stuff and make your own army instead of trying to find a bunch of A holes to do instances with but if your going to play WoW on real servers check out the guild called fists of light thats the best guild to go to if your in need of any help oh their on the rppvp servers

There is no "necessity" to a $15 a month service fee. The servers are bought, hence the initial investment could have been costly, but considering the millions of paying subscribers that would be paid back in no time. Do you realize you could get a DSL connection for $15 a month? Theres no way blizzard is incurring more than $5 a person in bandwidth charges. The customer support is TERRIBLE and may as well be nonexistent. Not to mention the game has bugs that have been around since day 1 and are STILL there. It is also absurd that they charge you for the expansions, on top of the monthly fees. Trust me people, Blizzard is making a KILLING off of WoW. They could lower the cost by $5, and still profit.Blizzard simply does not want any one other than themselves raking in the money from this game. They are very stingy.

Actually, the servers don't lag at all, and are only down 8 hours every Tuesday morning for maintenance. It's pretty good quality.
