cato.org — Except when the survival of the nation is at stake, all military missions must be judged according to a cost-benefit calculation. Iraq has never come close to being a war for America's survival. It was an elective war -- a war of choice, and a bad choice at that.

not only would withdrawal be "less painful" it's the only course available to those who want to restore constitutional governance to our great country. All wars that don't start with a Constitutionally-mandated declaration of war are illegal. period.

I can't figure out why all these pro-war folks are here blogging and not overseas being a burden on the taxpayers.

You're obviously illiterate. I have served in Iraq and I happen to know sonofdy is also a servicemember, so get over yourself and your high-and-mighty attitude.

What can we expect to accomplish by staying in Iraq? We've already declared, "mission accomplished." I just don't think sending more troops or staying longer will change the eventual outcome. It will only postpone the inevitable at great expense in lives and dollars. I don't think a satisfactory conclusion is possible. It's already unsatisfactory for the dead and maimed. We made a big mistake that we can't fix. We need to admit it and do the only right thing and move on.
