nytimes.com — "With sales of Saturn vehicles falling, General Motors said it was “exploring alternatives” for the brand that was once considered a symbol of its future." - “I’m absolutely convinced that the Saturn way could have worked,” said Michael Bennett, the original U.A.W. leader at Saturn. “But what we had was never embraced or adopted.” so f'ing true

This is probably the best article I've read about GM recently. It is really appropriate to talk about Saturn during these times since everyone's talking about how GM should re-invent itself. Does anyone remember that back in 1985 they set out do do just that. 1991 first Saturn model year 1994 highest sales year (also the year GM took control back) and the Saturn was proven to work. But by 2000 the sheer weight of the rest of GM squashed the round peg that is Saturn into the square hole next to the other square holes for the other GM brands. That's been the problem and maybe it's too late for a good solution either. I still have hope, somehow, that this situation will leave us better off... we'll see.
