It's an attempt at recreating the moving target that is the Windows API on Unix and Unix derivatives using X and OpenGL. It isn't a Windows emulator, hence the name, but rather a synthetic Windows environment that makes Windows binaries feel "at home" and puts everything they need to run in places where the binary can find them.(Credit goes to bigsteve for the explanation)Basically, it attempts to make Windows programs think they're running on Windows when they're not.

Just for those that want a more 100% compatible way of running windows apps under linux - take a look at running a VM with 2X.www.2x.comWhat is 2X is hear you say - its a free (like beer for up to 5 applications) thin client application server for linux/windows and allows you to run windows apps under linux that actually run in the windows VM. for n00bs , you could be up within a day.... a lot more stable... just an idea incase you are looking for an alternate.
