osxbook.com — "We now have Windows XP running on the Intel-based Macintosh — as a guest operating system under the Linux version of VMware.""To anybody who has used Windows XP under Virtual PC on the PowerPC version of Mac OS X: you will simply be blown away by how fast Windows XP runs under VMware on the new hardware."

I don't understand why anyone would want to do this.

Seriously.... who cares if XP will go on a Mac. If you are so desperate to run some windows application, go to dell and BUY a crappy $250 PC.Don't blow smoke up your own skirt thinking that running Windows is OK because it's still on Mac hardware.Yes, Mac is on an x86 platform now. WE GET IT.

Only reason I'd want to use XP is for gaming... and that's not going to happen through VMWare.

>Cue the cheesy music... For years those Macs were dull little boxes dutifully performing>dull little tasks when they could have been doing so much more. But now that Macs have>Windows XP they have been set free!we could always run windows on our macs. because the processor was great enough to emulate x86. this is all exciting for windows people becuase the x86 processors were not powerful enough to emulate a PPC processor. its really old news... who cares.

windows belongs in a virtual machine for now. dual booting is a 1990's thing. what i want to see in the future is windows booting in a mach thread, much like running classic. then the windows could run side-by-side with osx apps and all would be well.

why the hell would you want to do this?

This isn't news. But still very cool and promising.
