pcworld.com— Phasing out an old operating system is nothing new for Microsoft, but Windows XP is unique in that it may be too good to die.

I cannot make a general argument for Vista, because it's true that you will get a faster, more generally compatible OS with XP. But as a developer, having IIS7, better integrated folder search capabilities better virtualization support and even the ability to see live, updating thumbnail previews of minimized running applications all do make a difference. Also, for .NET developers like myself, there a lot of Vista-only features (writing on Vista, for Vista) that are cool:http://www.danielmoth.com/Blog/2006/11/vista-only- ...
The only complaints people had with XP was the way it looked. Personally I liked it more than the ugly Win98 pixely look. XP is solid, it wont go away anytime soon. Until 64 bit becomes standard.
I've only been using XP for 3 years so I'll just skip Vista and get Windows 7 when it comes out, the previews I've read seems very promising and looks more feature-efficient rather than pimp-stylin' with many flaws like Vista is.
@GrooTheWanderer RE: " As long as they fix the random folder view settings, I'm happy."+1 to you, since this is something that has bugged me for quite some time. What is really crazy is that the "random folder view" issue has been around since Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
