I see nothing that great with this. Actually reminds me of Stardocks Object Desktop. I do not work for them or use their products, but come on, this isn't new.http://www.stardock.com/products/odnt/odnt-apr03.jpgWhat happened to the real OS features like a new file system?

I think it's funny how all these "oohs" and "ahhs" are about f**king UI when the OS itself has practically nothing good to offer that would make one consider purchasing an ugprade. If you want good looking UI with gadgets, customize XP. You won't have to waste system resources to get em.

Not that this is a big complaint :) ... but that page should load up the images via AJAX, instead of pushing you to a new page everytime you want to see the different GUI interfaces. Not fun keeping on pushing the "back" button. :P

"I don't get why people are so in love with Classic"Then you just don't get it. Some people like things the way they are, and don't need all of the flashy, distracting, ubergraphics. Some people don't like transparencies everywhere, fading menus, colored bounding boxes of 8 different colors, swooshy graphics behind windows, and the list of junk goes on and on and on.Windows Classic is simple, it's straight forward, no excess painting done, nothing to distract the eye from what you're supposed to be seeing in the first place. For this same reason, people like other very standardized UIs like Mac OS X's Aqua. Personally, whatever's plain is good for me. Plain and boring UIs mean simple UIs, not only to use, but to teach. Moving everything around, changing labels, making the graphics even flashier, putting all of that chrome on those windows isn't doing the user any good at all. Give me Aqua's smooth shadows to help differentiate the front window from the back, Aqua's simple and (mostly) consistent UI throughout all applications, unobtrusive buttons with different colors to differentiate between functionality anyday over the mess they're turning Vista into. Why Microsoft can copy everything else and not learn some basic design rules themselves, the world may never know.

Category view is still around in Vista's control panel. Fortunately, you can still make the control panel useful again by switching to classic view just like in XP.

The classic theme looks fine to me on Windows XP (I frequently switch back to it when I'm tired of the XP theme...), but holy crap the sidebar and the start menu look hideous on Vista's classic.

I like Classic for another reason: it is iconic, not (bad) photographic.I don´t like the actual 3D rendering engines used for Windows or MAC OS X like the used in all games. They intend to be realistic, but for me they do not. For example the cameras in games do not simulate the curvature of the real camera lens, and they do not have even an option to select a narrower angle of view like it is standardized on the cinema movies, like we see it in real life.Another thing I do not like is the color composition. Well, it may be useful to have 3 colors for each button in the Mac OS X Aqua, but personally I don´t like to see those 3 colors, especially if I am designing or viewing some artistic thing and I need a neutral, not distracting colors. The day that movie studios designers help programmers doing the Operating System interface design and games then I will start using it and playing simulation games for a realistic experience.Regards,Carlos
