macworld.com— A recent report from Streamingmedia.com suggests that Apple's H.264 media format is gaining significant ground on Microsoft's Windows Media format. Both are still significantly behind RealVideo however.

I think WMV and Quicktime has its plus and minuses. Once quicktime player began using open formats and standards as WMV has I don't mind their proprietary files. Both are progressing and heading in a repectible direction (and both can do great High Def and both can look like crap depending on the encoding setup).Boo for Real, even with a less intrusive program then a few years ago it still is almost bad enough to be a virus! And with such a closed tight format even VLC won't play it. And I do agree with previous posts that real on OSX doesn't pain me as much as on XP.
I have to admit, with Windows media player it buffers all of the time and when you view streamed video, you may as well go out and get a cup of coffee cause when you come back - maybe, just maybe it will start to play. I use Windows and Mac and with all of the bashing aside, I have to admit, WMP is crap.QT and real stream perfectly. How come WMP - they cant do it right (well, it is microsoft). I think that Windows + WMP does not equal a media centre at all! Geez, just use WMP and compare it to Quicktime or real - there is no comparison! I cant beleive that people use it at all. And many windows users just think its great - cause they are use to it. TV stations like CBC News have switched to WMP and it just dosent work. Why put something up when it just dosent work. It's like building a house, but they dont use brick, they use wood. Its just half arsed done.

Marked as inaccurate. The title and the description are totally misleading and wrong. Bury this with me please.
