wow lots of n00bs. my friend beta tested longhorn/vista (it was still longhorn then) and this is not longhorn. longhorn had a 3D desktop. this dosen't. this is a skin. i cant believe this many people would fall for this... you would think the need for a windows xp disk would be a dead give away...
It can't believe this assh**e is getting dugg up like he really has a point.Your 3 reasons can be answered with one argument. This is a homebre/hoby project (if you want to call it project). Number 1 might be a valid reason; drivers. But hell, I'm really positive that anyone willing to download and try LR out certainly will not give a s**t about servicing or support (number 2). And tha fact that it is illegal(3) is not reason for it to fail. Hell, half of what we do on the internet is illegal anyways.I give you that this thing is just overhyped. It should be considered as what it is; just a bunch of people doing something because they simply can.f**king ms fanboys in denial. Vista might have some great features added, but it wasn't the big change we were all expecting. Screw the "Wow!". I'm a Vista user myself.
This is useless and silly for many reasons. Let's see...I have a version of Longhorn, too, but it's much newer. It's called Vista. Oh, and Longhorn Server is still under development (Server 2008).As a novelty item from the history pages of Windows, it's maybe a tiny bit interesting to have an old build of Windows with a few features may have changed/scrapped. It's fun to see where the project was headed at a certain point in time. But their stated goal is "to finish off what Microsoft started before the operating system was canceled."However, THEY DONT HAVE ANY SOURCE CODE. (and if they did MS legal would be pretty unhappy) They're not going to change anything except some graphics without the source. They're not going to be "developing a branch" of Longhorn. They might be changing some registry entries and adding drivers on disc, but who knows, they might also be adding a trojan to the OS.This is the typical blogosphere/diggnation reaction to this "project" from a few high schoolers.
Checked it out, but it's REALLY broken in places. DON'T USE IT as your main OS. It's a novelty.Oh, and to the numerous idiots above,THIS LONGHORN != VISTA "LONGHORN"The original "Longhorn" [with WinFS and other assorted goodies] was scrapped in 2004 and they started fresh. The new "Longhorn" that came out of that was what became Vista. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Vista#DevelopmentAlso, this is completely legal. The EULA for alpha/beta copies of Windows allows for free redistibution and modification of it.
