spotback.com— No this isn't an April Fool's joke. Windows Live Barcode enables users to store their own data in QR codes, which are already present on Spaces for markets like Japan.

If I remember right, Radioshack tried something where under every item in their catalog there would be a bar code and you would scan that with the purchasable dongle (I think it was called the cat scanner, I remember being shaped like a cat) for your computer and it would automatically bring that item up on the radioshack website. No one bought the scanner.
The scanner was actually a free giveaway I remember picking one up, it never took off because the registration process was a pain in the ass, and their privacy policies were pretty shady. I remember hearing about a group involved with hacking the scanner fairly recently too.

http://www.getjar.com/products/5265/J2MEQRCodeIt runs on any J2ME supporting phone, and can decode photos taken by camera or any picture on the phone. Now, if I had a bluetooth phone I'd send that program to everyone :(Anyway...everyone should adopt this stuff!
