blogs.zdnet.com — Microsoft isn’t going to show Windows 7 to attendees of the Professional Developers Conference (PDC) in Los Angeles until Tuesday, October 28. But new info about what’s part of the pre-beta build that will be provided to show-goers is beginning to trickle out.

As a Windows user I have an interest in seeing Windows 7 be good. Admittedly, I've remained with XP and have only used Vista hands-on a handful of relatively short times. Having just built a new computer a few months ago, I'm sure I could run it fine. Still, instead of reading about pretty ribbons and UI tweaks, I'd like to hear about how the memory manager has been revamped, or how programs have been optimized for resource utilization. Seems like they've just gotten a little too smug now that people are starting to say Vista is "good enough" since SP1. I wonder how long this formula will be successful. Personally, I've used Windows for years and years, but I've been looking at alternatives such as Linux. Sadly, I don't think it 's quite there yet, nor am I sold on Macs.

Yeah I remember Longhorn, a milestone version of Vista that lost all the features Microsoft promised as it progressed. The longhorn GUI was much better than Vista, the sidebar was better, etc. So yes i think I know what I am talking about, just calm down ;)

RE: " "Since we were able to trick and film prescreened uninformed low-level users in controlled settings designed by our push-polling boutique marketing agencies that 'Vista' was 'Mojave,' why don't we just take the same whole load of crap code, and instead of calling it 'Vista' or 'Mojave,' we'll just call it '7'! All we have to do is design a new paperboard box! Why, we can even have it out by June of next year!"[High-fiving ensues around boardroom table.] "Ok, that's-a VERY Niiice... Not ?

"Windows "Longhorn" is the next major desktop Windows release, which will follow Windows XP; there is also a minor Windows Server revision that will ship in the Longhorn wave." - Paul ThurrottThat could mean any number of things, there was a release called Longhorn, now called Vista which Longhorn is also called Windows Server 2008? Don't digg me down because I called a nick an idiot because any Microsoft Operating System carried the internal name "Longhorn" and changes at RTM. "Longhorn" OSes are only released to the public when they are leaked, thus, Longhorn is never a full or fully supported operating system.
