blogs.zdnet.com — Microsoft makes for an unlikely David, and Linux an even unlikelier Goliath ? but here we are. A few years ago, Linux was positioned as the ?Windows killer.? Now Windows 7 is being positioned as the Linux killer.

Calling it a "linux killer" will get people to click and read the story. The mainstream media in every field has stopped reporting "news" and has instead starting simply crafting what they report and how they report it for no other purpose than to drive viewership. Unfortunately we have no one to blame but ourselves for this situation because we fall for it so easily.

Kernel Panic. Sounds like the name of a band:Panic at the Kernel(Yes I realize when you reboot your machine, you should be fine, but Panic at the Kernel is such an awesome name)

I also forgot to mention that these companies wilfully mislead you by saying "buy our software" and not "licenses our software" in the ads. This is just one more factor that the above judge used to come to his decision.

It's not fixed / updated. And, yes, cygwin does run on Windows; however, since it's a third party app it's kind of dislodged from the system, and a real shell should really should be part of the system. If you don't already understand why, I won't be able to explain it because I haven't got the patience :)No, the Power shell can't do stuff like: find ./ -name ".svn" -exec rm -rf {} \; Point being there are lots of Linux / Unix / Mac users who use a "standard" shell. If power shell did both (it's made up thing, and bash, tcsh, whatever) it might stand a chance with what I am talking about.blah blah

Imagine when it goes live, you'll buy a HP netbook with Windows 7 and about a dozen of programs that give you incredible deals from HP!The task of booting up fast goes beyong reach of Microsoft, they should make a some requirements from vendors:1. No additional start-up programs due to driver instalation.2. No setup.exe on driver's installation, the good old "new hardware found" way is good enough.3. No programs are allowed to boot up with a Windows that came pre-installed besides those who already start after a clean installation. (Even better if MSN messenger is not booting with Windows, unless you enable it to.)If MS followed this advice, I'm sure that even Vista could see a boost in morale.

I agree that there should be less distributions. Sure competition is good... but the Linux situation is a little silly.

What the f**k are you talking about? What relevance does an article written in 2003 have now? You're stupid.

Tedious, slightly trolly, bound to get hits and no doubt spread over several pages to maximise ad revenue, buried.Bored of the X OS will destroy Y OS stories with nothing new to say.

Wow, and I didn't even say that Linux didn't have momentum, just that this story is a nice change. Amazing how much you read into a quick comment, including my age. Insecure much?
