Probably because of the fact that they pay licensing fees on technology that they don't own that have been included in their higher end products. Just a guess, though. I'd bet that BitLocker, for one, includes RSA technology. Do you think that's free to Microsoft?

no I'm not surprised. What I am surprised at is that they still have it split into different SKU's. Its silly, just sell one version.

I shall wait until I get a new pc - as I'm in Europe, I don't get the chance for an upgrade and don't want to pay for a dumbed down version
