It takes a helluva lot of energy to shoot something into the Sun. Easier to slingshot it around Jupiter back into the Sun, but then why not just throw it into Jupiter?Or we can just use energy sources that don't produce waste that needs to be jettisoned from the earth.

I hope in >9 months the US will start investing in this kind of technology. An even better approach would be to harness ocean currents underwater, but it would be expensive and still needs R&D.

I'm amazed that people still think of nuclear energy as a good thing. Even with...- the US domestic uranium supply is dwindling (less than 14 years available per the US Corp of Engineers)- huge government support needed to keep the industry going- the fact that each plant is a significant terrorist target- the risk of widespread devastation when the next plant fails- uncalculatable costs involved in decommissioning each plant, guarding the waste for thousands of years and loss of use for the damaged property involved.- unknown effect of thermal pollution caused by the plantsWhy should we accept these risks? Instead we should be transitioning to a wide variety of sustainable sources. Wind is just one of them.More info:: Energy Trends and Their Implications for U.S. Army Installationsby: US Army Corps of Engineers, Sept 2005http://www.energybulletin.net/13737.html

We are a contentious species,
1) Electrical generation is a primary target in war. Nuclear only makes it a more attractive.
2) Why were you down voted for a thorough fact based argument with a link?
Whatever generation source you consider you must calculate it's ability to deliver base load

It will be really cool if all the countries can do the same. But mother nature does not guarantee anything to us that everyday will be windy and sunny.

You could simply have extra capacity to make up for the variability. Then when its producing an energy surplus you could convert the extra energy into hydrogen for use in cars.. (I admit hydrogen fuel cells may not pan out, but it's a thought). Or simply shut off some of the plants. Wind would be an easy one to simply turn off, others aren't so easy.On a side note, the company I work for makes relocatable / hot pluggable jet engine turbines which fit on the back of a tractor trailer. They can generate 50+ megawatts for peak demand and relocated for emergencies. Of course they do burn fossil fuels, but I'm just saying that there are other types of power out there that can counteract the variability of wind.

Please, do the math for conversion from energy input. to energy output. hydrogen is inefficient.
You might prefer batteries.

"But mother nature does not guarantee anything to us that everyday will be windy and sunny."True, but they do have 5 years of datamining of wind data before they even start the first stage of road construction of a wind farm. They typically know when sites will be reliable, not an hourly reliability- but a monthly reliability. Summer time is usually a bit calmer, which one of the biggest reasons why we can’t solely rely on wind power.

Way too inefficient--you're losing energy at each step of the process.

wind power generation outstripping every other power source in a country is f**king cool. who would have thought that was even possible a couple of years ago... or even yesterday. props to spain.

Yeah. I would be interested in costs as well. Spanish people are not known for its cost savings.http://www.spain-specialties.com/http://www.shopthewild.com/

I think this can happened only once but with nuclear energy you can generate more energy compare to any other energy sources. For more information nuclear energy, you can visit at http://www.nuclearfriendsfoundation.com/index.aspx
