mlipod.com — "The winamp ipod plugin is a plugin for winamp. It allows you to manage your iPod from within the winamp media library. It supports all kinds of iPods, from the classic first generation iPods, to the iPod mini, photo, nano and shuffle and everything in between."

Why would you want to replace iTunes with crappy winamp?
salmonmooseSep 30, 2005
Actually, if you really don't care for beveled skins or flashing colours, foobar2k is the s**t :)Please oh please let this degenerate into a media centre flame war :)oh, and resources are important for the few of us who actually use their CPU, there's nothing so annoying as iTunes and Winamps ability to stutter music when you're rendering.

People suck. Winamp sucks. My life sucks. You suck. I suck. Everythin sucks. iTunes sucks.

Kevin Rose once tested this when it first came out. It was rather bug ridden then ;)

this works awesome.. i dont use it to replace itunes as my way to transfer songs to my ipod.. rather to use it to load my friends ipods or to load songs from their ipod on to my computer. i use winamp all the time.. but this does work for taking songs from other peoples ipods really well.

Besides...if you have an iPod, use it to listen to music and use your computer to...ahh..compute..In this scenario, you only need a lite application to transfer your songs back and forth...based on those specs, I think Winamp is better.

This is a great add-on, and gives you far greater control over the sync options than iTunes does. It also appears far more stable than iTunes when faced with a huge MP3 collection stored on your iPod (100+ GB).Keep up the good work :)

I think another thing iTunes is lacking, is the ability to add new plugins for additional functionality.I use many full-screen apps that don't allow me to alt-tab easily back to my desktop, therefore highly customisable Global Hotkeys are fantastic for these situations. I realise there are third-party overlay apps that can run in the background and intercept keystrokes in a similar fashion, however do not integrate well with an applications key features.Winamp supports it out of the box, which I see as a huge plus. With the addition of many custom plugins, you can have your Winamp doing all sorts of wonderful things with your music and video collection. Two thumbs up to Winamp from me :)

No comment about WinAmp, yet - but iTunes will be turn out to Apple's BIG mistake. Why should any consumer tolerate a corporation such as Apple trying to govern us?You can bet your bollocks that this strict control is NOT intended for our benefit but simply a strategy carefully designed to milk as much cash from Apple's (shrinking) customer base as possible (at least in the short term). Now consider the greatest success story of our era - Google.Google's policy of "openness" and "don't do evil" builds confidence and loyalty in its users - and this underlies Google's phenomenal rise and rise.Note how Google's policy is diametrically opposite to Apple's policy - and watch how it goes for Apple!Anyone who likes iTunes either has low standards (ie easily pleased - that's OK) or has been so suckered in by Apple that they simply have NO IDEA.So there ARE plenty of reasons to give Apple the BIG A! (Nothing to do with being hateful but, rather, to do with being awake!)
