SSD will never be for me, as a 'addicted gamer' I have about 500 gb of purely games, which would mean about 1000 dollars in SSD's, it's just cheaper to have a RAID 0 array and be a little patient.
Currently the drives are too expensive to be used for more than just your OS. I'm looking to "upgrade" my 120GB laptop drive to a 60GB SSD in the coming months (until the price becomes a bit more reasonable) and I would reuse the 120GB as an external. I guess it really depends on your application.
Even if I don't like a piece of music I've downloaded, I still tend to keep it just so that it can be shared with others on my P2P networks who might like it. That sort of throw nothing away philosophy can fill up a 1TB drive quickly.
Yep, when I was buying my current laptop I was sitting there for a few minutes scratching my head at whether or not an 80gb SSD was worth the extra benjamins... then I ordered a 500gb Scorpio for $100.Still, sometimes I do wish I had an SSD, considering the heat/battery life/performance issues. With Ubuntu 9.04 out and rocking the EXT4 filesystem, this does ease my performance concern considerably for now.

Is it really that much cheaper though in the long run if you have to invest in multiple backup drives?
