tawker.com — Wikipedia sysop Tawker blocked Stephen Colbert earlier tonight after a segment on the program where he incited on-wiki vandalism such as, "The number of elephants in the world has tripled in the last six months." Twenty elephant-related pages were protected as a result, and the account Stephen Colbert used to vandalize on-air was blocked.

Bad taste? Yes. Satire? Yep. Using it to illustrate a point that America takes whatever is presented to them without questioning? Yes. Really, how many folks get their news from such "fair & balanced" sources as Fox News and CNN? Many, and most believe every word of it. All Colbert was doing was pointing that out in a forum that many use to get factual information (wikipedia), and how easy it is to change the "facts" (see previous years attempts by Congressional staffers & hired PR firms to change bios of members of Congress). That and it was funny. I'm moving to Washington's Mexico soon and it made me laugh.

This delusional f**ker thinks that Colbert is actually going to care enough to put him on report. Tawker: wake up you attention seeking ****, you're a loser . f**k off. No one cares about you, or anything you do.

Everyone knows now that Oregon is Idaho's Portugal. Oregon was getting too much credit for being a Canada or a Mexico.

This is ridiculous. Those of you who are actually condemning Colbert for his actions pretty much fall into the same category as those who criticized him for the Wexler interview last week. I mean, to those who claim Colbert was inciting Wiki "riots", don't you think Wikipedia has a good enough system in place to combat vandalism? And how's this any different then when, say, Mel Gibson is in the news for spitting racial slurs and everyone flocks to his Wikipedia entry to vandalize that? And if that was really Colbert and he really was blocked or whatever, who cares? I think the man is busy enough with his job than to just hang around Wikipedia.

I've noticed recently that with all of these news stories popping up everywhere, vandalism on 'pedia has skyrocketed. It might've been smart for a Wikipedia admin to immediately disable editing for the article; that is, if he saw the show before it was too late.
