techflash.com — Nintendo's Wii game console sold a record 3.81 million units in the U.S. in December, eclipsing Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's Playstation 3 during the critical holiday shopping season. The PlayStation 3 sold 1.36 million units for the month, compared with 1.31 million units for Xbox 360.

the fact is that Nintendo dominated the top 10 charts for games over 2009 as well, with 6 out of 10 titles

I think Natal is overhyped bulls**t and I think the main people who are hyping it are the people who are gaga over the Wii. I suspect it'll be a fad that everyone buys at first, but then actual usage tapers out over the ensuing years. I'm sure it'll have a place (party games and the sort), but when I'm playing games, I consider it a chance to relax after a long day working, sit on my ass, and basically try to avoid moving as much as humanly possible. I also don't particularly consider myself a fanboy, as I couldn't care less about the religious wars over the Xbox or PS3 (I prefer the PS3, but I hardly care enough to get into a pissing match about it). And, well, I do have a high-end gaming rig, too. These things aren't all mutually exclusive. Sadly, many great games aren't being released on the PC, so you still end up stuck with the console.

in terms of sales you need to figure that the 360 has been out for years now, PS3 finally dropped its steep price and wii...well wii is just...feh.wii is marketed to people who don't want to have to try hard to beat a game. or learn how to use it. just swing your arms around, anyone can do that. everyone knows how to play tennis or bowling or, uh, curling. there's no major commitment, and you won't have to crack your brain in two thinking about how to do the game. see the upcoming Demo Mode.of course, this doesn't apply to everyone who buys a wii or every game. but that's the dominant market. Hence why it sells so well. but you rarely hear about individual games other then wii sports or wii fit, you just hear about the wii itself.

Don't forget to factor in the cost/profit of Xbox Live, which every 360 owner I personally know pays for.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what's with the association with kids and Nintendo?I have 13 year old brothers, and they and all of their friends love the 360 and it's "hardcore games." Yeah, they have a Wii and enjoy games on the platform, but it's not what you hear them talking about or see them playing. It's no coincidence that MW2, ODST, and Forza 3 topped their Christmas lists over NSMB Wii and Wii Sports Resort (although, they did get the latter).

The crappy retailer I work at sold through all three consoles pretty well. 120GB PS3's actually seemed to be out of stock most frequently, but that very well could have to do more with supply than sales (likely the case, after seeing the final numbers).Wii and 360 Arcade were about equal in terms of time sold out, with the 250GB PS3 following, then the 360 Elite. Rounding everything out would be the poor MW2 360 model. I don't think more than one or two of those got sold at my store the entire holiday season. It simply wasn't a good value and I think consumers realized it.

I received a 760 on SAT writing, so I wouldn't go down that road if I were you. Let's dissect my writing."While the PS3 is starting to gain traction, from a corporate standpoint, it may be seen as a failure for Sony" The commas are used to separate a part of the sentence that could be removed without harming the subject. Perfectly valid placement."They've bled money on it, game sales have been underwhelming, it's nowhere near the PS2, and there was still a very high chance that Blu-ray would have won without the PS3 anyway."All that is doing is separate multiple points, and then separating the final point from a new subject, I probably could have used a semicolon after the last listed point.
