well.blogs.nytimes.com — That’s what University of Washington researchers found when they compared the prices of 370 foods. Calorie for calorie, junk foods not only cost less than fruits and vegetables. Energy-dense munchies cost on average $1.76 per 1,000 kcal, compared with $18.16 per 1,000 kcal for low-energy but nutritious foods.

Wow, when you don't genetically modify your crops, spray them to hell and back with herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and pesticides, radiate them, and ship them off to be processed with countless petrochemical, neurotoxic additives, it sure does hit you in the pocketbook! I wonder how that works? If your wondering why your still fat when you've done everything you can to avoid fat and sugar, try cutting out the aspartame and MSG.

While I can of course understand how these findings were arrived at and why this perception persists, I am afraid I simply cannot agree that this need necessarily be so.As one who has been cooking since childhood and devising and publishing his own healthy recipes for many years now, I always advise someone looking to change their eating habits for the better to follow but a few simple steps:1) Make a list of all your favourite healthy foodstuffs in the form of raw ingredients. For example, my own list would include things like chicken, garlic, mushrooms, tomatoes, etcetera. If the cost factor has to figure in to this equation, so be it. Take some time to do the list though, remembering to write each item down as you think of it. Some people may take an hour, some may take a week, there is no specific time limit.2) Search recipe books and particularly Online Search Engines for healthy recipes including your favourite (and, if necessary, inexpensive) ingredients. An online search may therefore take the form of, "healthy chicken garlic mushroom recipes." You will be amazed what some such searches turn up!3) As your experience develops and perhaps your list grows, try coming up with the recipes yourself. It can be a lot of fun!In conclusion, there is absolutely no reason why we cannot eat in a healthy fashion just as cheaply as we can consume the chemical stodge that could ultimately kill us. I hope you will at least give these simple steps a try.

The US tends to subsidize foods (corn, soy, dairy, etc) that are largely processed into cheap, calorie dense foods. http://digitalworldaccess.com That's not to say there aren't affordable, healthy foods too, but I think it helps to explain the abundance of "junk" food.
