eurekalert.org— A common chemical process may explain a bizarre property of water that has been a mystery since the time of Aristotle ¨C how hot water can freeze more quickly than cold.

I can't wait for the article that explains why cameras add ten pounds. No, it isn't a lie we tell women to make them feel better about having their photograph taken. It's scientific fact. It was first "rediscovered" by Ernesto P. Worrell, a Tanzanian high school student who took a picture of his middle-aged mother in 1962.
Newton's law of cooling has nothing to do with this. And even if it did, you wouldn't need to evaluate an ODE. And the law of cooling comes from the differential equation, not the other way around. Oh, and just to be picky, one doesn't "theorize" the outcome of an experiment. But thanks for the astonishing report: "If we are assuming that all things are equal, except for the initial temperature of the liquid. Then of course the cooler liquid would freeze faster than the warmer."
Not entirely accurate. Yes the hot water (which is not heated inside the machine, hot water is pumped into the machine before sending it out) assists in slightly melting the ice to help fill gaps and big digs in the ice surface. However the machine has a giant auger that scrapes the top layer of ice off before laying down more water, and all of the collected ice is stored in the giant hull of the machine and later dumped. In fact the process of draining a rink involves running the zamboni over it a multitude of times without laying down any water until there is just a very thin layer of ice left - then the rest is allowed to melt and is vacuumed up. Edit: But it was said to me directly from the rep. that the hot water is also used because it freezes faster.
alright mr. cool....you were right and i was wrong...all praise drebola....that means you bitch, bow down.no seriously, i must have to amit i was pretty lit when i wrote that comment, and after reading the article and my comment again. all i can say is wtf.i must have only read every third sentence or some thing. what ever.moral of the sorry don't drink and digg or the digg nazi will put you in check.give me five on the dark side

Junk science. Misleading title. I wasted time reading it.

Interesting how some people can write a novel about this stuff. Give me a short link any day. By the way nice set of links timewarrior! -------------------------------------http://hackedgadgets.com

Because science and technology are totally unrelated. And because there's no science section of digg.
