latimesblogs.latimes.com — Alone in a room in his home in Bonn, Germany, Friedhelm Hillebrand sat at his typewriter, tapping out random sentences and questions on a sheet of paper. As he went along, Hillebrand counted the number of letters, numbers, punctuation marks and spaces on the page. Each blurb ran on for a line or two and nearly always clocked in under 160 characters

I will never "get" text messaging. The majority of people who do it are doing it from a regular cell phone (e.g. without a QWERTY keyboard) and even with features like T9. it's still a chore It's OK for a quick note, but more often than not, it makes more sense to me to actually call the person. And I really don't get 15-year-olds who carry out full-fleged conversations via text. That just doesn't make sense to me.To each his/her own...

ok, the 160 letters makes up a universal standard file size that is charged if u send one letter or 160 letters, the total of 160 charectars is the price f txt, and it keeps all files same size, its file size. & if you go one letter over, it auto makes another file, charging you twice, so, if your going to send a txt, u may as well use up what your paying for, and it saves cat an mouse replies, its not philosophical or deep or anything else, its a standard file size. ur charged for an empty box, what u can put in it is 160 letters, if u only put in one, then its still a box.. never speak of this again.. :)

Why limit yourself to 140? Try out http://tweetasaur.us And I'd be surprised if there aren't other twitter clients that do the same thing.

To blackberry users. You need to upgrade your software to 5.0. You can type a message as long as u want. It will automaticlly split the messages for u up to 6 messages all at once. Go into your settings, then advanced option, then wireless update. It won't do it on its own. I have Curve 8900 and had the 8310 curve also. Hope this helps some of u.
