hate to tell you sonny but linux has been soaked in elitism long before os x was a sparkle in steve jobs eye -- its not the OS, its the nature of the geekbtw.. my own experience on the ubuntu forums has been pretty damned good although one thing that does bug me is when people ask a question and then end up finding out on another source and then never come back to tell anyone else that might have been interested...I'm sure the same question asked on the windows forum (think 'press any key to continue' would result in the same amount of amusement and riddicule... I doubt its an ubuntu/linux thing...And ANYWAY! is Ubuntu not meant to be for N00BS in the first place? /sarcasm
I find his question completely natural, as it IS unobvious that one has to click on this thing in a terminal window.Fortunately the people on the forum were helpful, and not a gloating dweep like the submitter. The submitter is probably not very sure of his own computer skills to post this on Digg, as are the ones that dugg it.Buried
i didand it pissed me off when i tried to install some media centre for linux...its not newb friendlyyou have to be a pro and understand the program and its applications fully to install ittook hours of googling to get TV out working
This is exactly why Linux isn't mainstream. The developer's assume too much for average users. And the community thinks all users aren't worthy of using a PC. Windows wins.
Ah man, that's funny. Gotta hand it to the person though, at least they're willing to try Ubuntu. Who would have guessed that they would have to transition from a gui-install manager type dialog into a CLI type dialog. I can see how they would get cornfused. Oh and they obviously have a lot of faith in the ubuntuforums to come and post it on there that quickly. That person probably hates Ubuntu and all Linux now for getting ridiculed. It's amazing that some people have never seen(and don't know how to use) a CLI dialog, even for the most simple of things. But still, that's funny.

omg we build up community support for Linux as a reason for someone to switch and then ridicule them for using community support. Genius!

Some people just don't put critical thought into their statements.
