i've been using ReiserFS 3 for the last few years with great success. no data loss, performance is good, and it's been quite good to me. in the future, i might use XFS or JFS, but right now, i'm quite happy with Reiser, and i really don't understand the hostility a lot of people have toward it - especially the Gentoo devs.
my problem with lvm is that when you fdisk -l in fedora , it will show you linux as the partition type, and you have to do mount to actually see the real information.does anyone know why this happens? I understand it will put all partitions in to a logical volume, but why limit the filesystem info to something not useful?
@swordedgeYou can do that with LVM. I've never done it with a hot pluggable SATA drive although it should work given that most drivers support hot plugging sata drives. I know it would work with a USB drive. I've removed/re-inserted lvm partitions on the fly.

ext3 is stable, but not THAT stable. We had a couple proxy servers get some crazy data corruption with ext3....
