This is a Pop Science (Social Science) Article - It is unclear what we really learn from it, because of the issues other people have brought up - such as inflation, or bubble world where costs stay the same. Some of the people surveyed may have understood the the question differently than others - making it completely useless. I studied Experimental Economics in University, and it is very difficult to isolate variables to make a useful test. And if you succeed, then its not a very realistic model

Well, if you're comfortable making $50K, great! If you want to make more money then you'll have to look for alternative means of generating it. Like starting an Internet Marketing Business.

No matter how much you stand to win or lose, it's all relative. If everyone else is winning or earning more than you, then the value of what you've gained has already gone down. Not that everyone else hasn't already said this, but I may as well put my 2 cents in...
