mindhacks.com — "Email is addictive because it is a variable-interval reinforcement schedule. Checking email is a behaviour that has variable interval reinforcement. Sometimes, but not everytime, the behaviour produces a reward. Everyone loves to get an email from a friend, or some good news, or even an amusing web link" i.e. rewards.

I hate getting e-mails. They're never stuff I want to read. They're usually work-related. Or spam. Or someone telling me an online bill is ready. All the good stuff comes through IM or text messages or cell phone calls. South Korea is right. E-mail is for old people.

It's not that addictive after you get 167 spam-mails every day. It's more of a repulsive thing.
