arstechnica.com — Apple TV certainly has its uses, but the original XBox is easier to hack, cheaper, and has much more support from the hacking community right now than Apple TV. If you've not looked into XBMC, it's absolutely worth it.

Sure, the xbox360 is great, but Apple TV is made for average consumer consumption. That is the reason it is going to sell. The xbox 360 does have a pretty sweet little marketplace going, and I would probably use it if I had a current-gen console; just don't expect it to gather the entire market. Apple TV definitely will find it's niche with consumers who do not play video games or who do not have an xbox and still want to stream.

If you don't want to mod your xbox yourself you can pay a fair fee for installation. I have been doing installs for years not one unhappy customer.X-S: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=533248My blog: http://www.teamxmods.com/

Umm...when you mod your Xbox with XBMC you have the ability to lower the speed of the exhaust fan in the system to a much quieter setting.

There are several solutions to enable playback of more formats on the 360. I use the Videora xbox 360 converter so all my videos are compatible. Granted, this requires an extra step, but it works very well. There is also a program you can install that will convert on the fly. I can't remember the name but it would occasionally give me a problem with a video that I was then able to convert with Videora with no problem. After a couple of those videos were encountered I switched permanently to Videora.
