techradar.com — Windows Vista isn't a bad OS - now. But it's had its problems. Third parties didn't make drivers fast enough, bugs affected obscure features such as, er, copying and deleting files, and Vista Capable PCs were nothing of the sort.

f**k, I already knew about it, but you gave me another perspective about how much money I waste.

I agree it should not be free, but the upgrade version should be considerably cheaper than the retail. I think $50 upgrade and $120 non-upgrade would be fair.

I am a linux and microsoft fan but wants to try OSX in the future. I'd say this "THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE MADE WINDOWS 7 AT ALL!" Coz like for my case, I bought my Vista Premium laptop 10 months, I had quite some problems with vista but when it was updated to SP1, it seems to be better but still it has some problems. Then microsoft claims that Windows 7 is the solution for all the problems and issues that were experienced with vista. WINDOWS7= IMPROVED VISTAThe thing is it would have been much better if they just released it as a service pack update. Like the XP SP2 And SP3 stuffs.Coz if they did, many users with vista machines, could just update their OS and everyone will be happy. LOL.BUT OF COURSE MICROSOFT'S PRIORITY IS MONEY AND NOT QUALITY NOR SERVICE TO ITS CONSUMERS.It's like paying 100$ for a straw, in order for you to drink your soda in a different way. BUT the thing is it's still SODA!

How is refining the backend of an OS ever irrelivant?I thought people would be glad that Microsoft took Vista and stripped it down somewhat to make it more streamlined, among adding some new features and further completing the Live series of programs.

No, it should not.Windows Vista is bad but not that bad. Sure it's annoying but you can disable many features and tweak it to run smoother. The best you can hope for is a discount "upgrade" purchase available for current Vista owners. If you really expect a free upgrade you are living in a dream. So wake up!
