All Apple needs to do is let us run Bootcamp on the iPhone and install Android (personally I probably wouldn't) but then it would be as "open" as anyone ever wanted, and Apple couldn't be blamed for any software issues that dont occur on iPhone OS.

It ties into Gizmo though, so if you have a Gizmo app (or other SIP app), you can make free calls from a computer or phone.However the iPhone doesn't allow VoIP over 3G - only WiFi.

So Apple invests the time and $$ to build a nice product, and ATT invests the $$ to build a network. Let them run what they see fit so that they can make a return on their investment. If you don't like it, buy another product you like better and use it on another network. Better yet, go build something yourself. And if Google doesn't like it, let them go spend their own $billions on a network, rather than trying to compel the world to spend $$ on things that benefit Google.
