Hey elshizzo. I definitely wasn't implying that the articles on digg aren't interesting. There's a reason I visit digg each and every day. The point is that digg is "only" as good as its top power users community, while it might have been even more interesting if it was tapping into its entire community, benefiting from the alluding "Widsom of Crowds".
I'm not sure about the 5 diggs point. Even with 10K submissions a day, if each digg visitor sees just 10 randomly selected upcoming stories to vote on, each upcoming story will still be on the "randomized upcoming list" of 1000s of people. Plus, if the plan works, there's a whole lot less incentive for people to spam and game, so it's less submissions, and more coverage by each visitor.
Wisdom of crowds is an oxymoron. It's actually "mob mentality" or "mass hysteria". Just because many people believe something, it doesn't mean it's right or good or ethical. Over 90% of humans believe in a god or other higher power. That doesn't prove that there is.

Abso-f**king-lutely.... The gaming of Digg friend/shout/blind-digg system for front-paging articles is proof positive of that.
