treehugger.com — Hand-me-downs. The very thought brings terror to any new parent who remembers the taunting children suffered for the sin of not having new possessions. I agree. When both of my kids were born, I bought car seats brand new and the crib was given to me by a trusting family member who took very good care of it. If I didn't get the crib that way, I would have bought that new too.

From what I recall, the Travoltas obsessively cleaned their carpets so much that they basically killed their kid. If they hadn't been so rich, he'd probably be alive. My girlfriend's cousin's kid lives in a bubble (metaphorically speaking) and he already seems quite weird to me. Neurotic parents are a health hazard...
