finance-weblog.com — Am I being too hard on Prosper? Am I looking only for the negatives and hiding the positives, glossing over the many safeguards Prosper has put in place to make this loan marketplace work? Am I just jealous that I didn't think of it first? Maybe.

Opposite argument, by same author: <a class="user" href="http://www.finance-weblog.com/50226711/counterpoint_why_prospercom_will_succeed.php">http://www.finance-weblog.com/50226711/counterpoint_why_prospercom_will_succeed.php</a>

Prosper.com is going strong, well enough to now offer signup bonuses through their referral system. Personally, I'm at 13.5% with no defaults because I've done some basic research and spread my risk. If you want to be a lender and earn the $25 signup, you have to go through a site with a referral button. Again, great way to diversify a portfolio and with above market return rates. The way this market's headed, this is a prudent way get a nice fixed non-correlated return. Since I don't see a referral button here, here's a link to everydayfinance which has the referral button:<a class="user" href="http://everydayfinance.blogspot.com/2007/06/prospercom-referrals-for.html">http://everydayfinance.blogspot.com/2007/06/prospercom-referrals-for.html</a>

They said the same thing about eBay when they first started. There is a NEED for Prosper so Prosper should prosper in the years ahead. The funny thing is they are handing out UNSECURED loans for $25,0000. This is interesting because think how hard it would be to acquire 25,000 from a bank. Yet on Prosper, all you have to do is have decent credit (NOT GOOD CREDIT, Just decent credit) and be a skilled creative writer!! If you make up a good story and put some heartfelt photos of adorable kids in the listing then a bunch of sapps out there with money will let you have $25,000 with no collateral. Once they deposit this $25,000 in your bank account there is really nothing to stop you from withdrawing the entire amount, closing your bank account, and taking a nice long road trip to somewhere for a few years... However I feel the majority of people who invest, IF THEY follow Prospers advice and diversify their investments (Never put more than 50.00 on any one investment) then how can you go wrong?? I'm going to start lending money myself... Why only get 5% in a CD or Savings account when you can be earning 15% at Prosper?? Everything that gets you somewhere in life has a little RISK involved. Live a little and roll those dice!!
