online.wsj.com — What?s ?incredible? about the Michael Phelps marijuana case is that a sheriff is actually looking to prosecute him and ?apply the law equally...Hundreds of thousands of Americans get arrested for pot each year.

There's a pretty major difference between murder and simple possession. Being under the influence of marijuana (assuming you aren't in public or driving), admitting that you once possessed it, or even having a picture showing you possessing marijuana at one point isn't reason enough to arrest you. Otherwise cops could go arrest Obama, Bush, and Clinton right now based on their own testimony.

Technically it is illegal to posses pot, but being high n taking a hit passed onto you by a friend is completely legal. At least in Canada. Unfortunately, I not as familiar with American laws, so I cant tell you if its the same if the US. BUT HOLDING A BONG DOES NOT INDICATE POT SMOKING, HE COULD BE TAKING TOBACCO HITS, so f**k everyone who assumes its weed.

I can always count on the Murdoch Street Journal to look at the broader picture.

Because the only evidence comes from a FOREIGN publication that has been known to have credibility issues even in it's own country! It's not like that outfit has never Photoshoped a picture before! That evidence may not even be admissible in court!A smart lawyer would have this case for lunch!!

Wow!!! I never thought I would agree with somebody calling for Phelps to be arrested over this. It is a great point. This war is senseless and it would be a tragedy for it to ruin Phelps career. That said, the Olympics are almost 4 years away, so there would be plenty of time for Americans to take a deep look at themselves, challenge old assumptions, and perhaps start acting rationally about what amounts to a preference. You cannot say pot should be illegal because it is harmful (alchohol & cigarettes, are both legal); nor because serves no medicinal purpose (check out this link: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/04/07041 ...This article is a Harvard study that show THC use can cut cancerous tumors by 1/2!!!! Beat that pharmaceutical companies...oh wait, you already have...what am I saying?!?!?
