thedailygreen.com — Antarctic sea ice hasn't shown the same obvious melting patterns in recent decades as the Arctic, fueling the global warming denialist crowd. Though the data isn't as consistent as in the North, where the extent of sea ice this summer hit a stunning record low, southern sea ice has been expanding.

Umm cause the Arctic is ice and Antarctica is a land mass? That's like titling an article, "Why Do Things Come Down After We Throw Them?"

They finally discovered the true cause of Global Warming. It's caused by all the hot air that AlGore and MoveOn.org have been putting out for the past 8 years. Personally, I like the idea of global warming. I'm 59 and the warmer temperatures are helping ease arthritis pain and other aches. Also, there is less snow to shovel and it's easier to drive on roads not covered by ice in winter. Pardon me while I pause and exhale some CO2.There, that's better.

This is rather easy to explain. The glacier snow is white, so it reflects the solar heat. If the Earth is warming, then the excessive heat is absorbed by ocean water, preferably. The warm water can dissolve the Arctic glaciers easily, but not the Antarctic one, because they're sitting on the continent. So the Antarctic ice dissolves a much more slowly. The temperature doesn't increase, until the rest of ice will be dissolved due the melting heat of ice. Therefore the global warming manifest itself rather by glacier melting, then the global temperature increasing.

The true is, the Antarctic ice is melting pretty fast, too<a class="user" href="http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2008-01/uob-ail011108.php">http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2008-01/uob ...</a>

To answer -- I know someone with an obsessive disorder. He is a genius, but can't go out the door without picking up the phone 3 times to check if someone important is calling with an emergency. If you find that his behavior is unnecessary, I would have to agree with you. Is it possible that picking up the phone 3 times will help? Yes. If we do this with every perceived hope we will soon be spending all of our energy hunting down boogie men. My friend has to be very careful that he doesn't spend all of his waking hours and mental energy doing these little routines. Civilization has limited resources. Should we be using them to combat something that isn't real? If it is real, will the sum total of our efforts have any effect at all? If it is real, is it necessarily a bad thing? If it is real, will we not be able to prove it scientifically, rather than politically, with a bit more study? Wouldn't it be more prudent to act when you know for certain what the impact of your actions are? If you believe that there is scientific evidence that proves AGW crisis with links to CO2, you have been misled by masters of the art.
