nationalpost.com— 'I can take a woman, in the biggest trouble she has ever experienced in her life, and by performing a five-minute operation, in comfort and dignity, I can give her back her life'

Make no mistake, theocracy has nothing to do with it. Make no mistake, even atheists are smart enough to know that it's a baby that's being destroyed. Make no mistake, I've known dozens of people who have had abortions (and fathers of aborted babies) At least half of them have had major issues over it down the road. Make no mistake, I have friends whose siblings have been aborted. You don't know the pain they go through because of it.
Doesn't have argument have a hidden assumption? If a woman is getting an ultrasound, it is vastly more likely that she already does not want an abortion. Women who what abortions often do not have that kind of disposable income, and do not want to learn more about their baby. It's fine to have a stance, but be able to back these things up.
Quote:"I want to tell you one last story that I think epitomizes the satisfaction I get from my privileged work. Some years ago I spoke to a class of University of British Columbia medical students. As I left the classroom, a student followed me out. She said: "Dr. Romalis, you won't remember me, but you did an abortion on me in 1992. I am a secondyear medical student now, and if it weren't for you I wouldn't be here now." Her baby would be here though.
1. The father shouldn't have any say. Do you think he should have the right to force a woman to be pregnant against her will? Ultimately, he's not the one that suffers. If a father would have the right to force a woman to remain pregnant against her will, then surely you also believe that he should be able to force her to abort against her will? Frankly, you can't have one without the other. That would be backwards and hypocritical.2. You see the fetus in the sonogram as a child because that's what YOU want it to be. That's how YOU see it. Those are your personal feelings, and they have no bearing, and should have no bearing, on others' feelings. To many, an unwanted pregnancy is nothing more than a troublesome parasite.
Yet again, someone completely disregards the feelings and well-being of the woman. These arguments are always about the fetus. These arguments always turn a conscious, sentient woman with feelings and a life and friends and loved ones into a nameless, faceless, inhuman incubator. "Nevermind how she feels about being pregnant," they say, "there are couples who want her potential baby!"Well, I'll tell you now that women are not brood mares for people who want to adopt children. And this overused idea of using abortion as birth control is ridiculous at best, insulting at worst. What the hell makes anyone think that abortion is so cheap and so easy and so pleasant that someone would use it so liberally? Abortions cost about $350-$400 a pop, and that's just in the first trimester. That price is also dependent on other factors, such as whether you're Rh-negative or not, where you go, whether or not you want sedation, or what method of abortion you choose.Secondly, abortions hurt. It's not an enjoyable thing to have needles poked into your cervix and then have your uterus painfully vacuumed out. But women do it, because they are desperate. Never underestimate what a woman will do- the risks she will take- to get rid of a pregnancy she doesn't want. I found that out during my last abortion. It's awe-inspiring, really.Third, abortions are terribly time-consuming. The average appointment takes about 5 hours. People often have to miss work or school, and since many women who have abortions are poor, this can be a detrimental thing. Then, of course, you have to consider the time and money of the people who cared enough about them to bring them to their appointment. That one day's lost pay on top of the cost of the abortion can cause serious problems. Some women have to go far away from home to have an abortion. What of their trouble? But even though one must go through all of that trouble and pain to have an abortion, it is still better than the alternative- having a baby you don't want. Even if you choose adoption, you still must go through pregnancy. And that has it's own terrible complications. What of women who suffer with hyperemesis gravidarum? I've suffered from that personally. I can say it is absolute hell. For most women, it happens with every pregnancy. And you really need to consider that to a woman who doesn't want to be pregnant, it is like a disease.Abortion IS our last resort. To a woman who doesn't want to be pregnant or have a baby, there is simply no other option. She will likely have an abortion, or die trying. So stop being such an insensitive bigot. Women faced with unwanted pregnancies have more important things to deal with than your self-righteous lectures, your insensitivity, your insults and your appalling lack of logic.
Maybe having a public who can keep penises from going into vaginas before they are ready to have children might be a good way of preventing pregnancies. Genius! I should write a book!
I think it's about time that we considered mandatory abortion for unfit parents. America has grown stupid and lazy because of unchecked breeding. Ironically, most of the people who need abortions are the practice's most vehement opponents; ignorant religious radicals
