io9.com — Audience turnout for the much-hyped season premiere for NBC's Heroes was lower than expected - so low, in fact, that Dancing With The Stars and CSI: Miami both kicked the show's metaphorical superpowered ass. So what's gone wrong with the network's former flying franchise?

Well, I for one didn't know it was even on. I might have watched it, at leaqst have recorded it, had I known. I guess I've been living under a rock? I feel like the networks need to do a better job promoting their shows OFF of their airwaves. If the only way to know that Heroes is going to be on is to watch commercials on other NBC shows... well, it's pretty unlikely that I'll be 'in the know'.I wish TV shows would just go direct to DVD/digital download. If all programming were handled this way, maybe with two versions, one ad-subsidized (less ads than current braodcasts, but the viewer still picks up part of the tab with a direct payment) and one ad-free (at a premium price) we could kill off the cable and sattelite companies that are such a huge part of the problem with TV.iTunes is a good start. You get the shows quickly, the selection is good, but the pricing is a bit high, imo. $2 for SD and $3 for "HD" (it's really not THAT much better than DVD, imo) is really pushing it. If they were offering free SD with limited ads and a delayed release date, $1 ad free SD/limited advertising HD, and $2 ad-free HD programming I'd be buying a LOT of shows (and downloading a lot for free, too).I'm pretty sure the only reason TV shows are $2 a piece is that is, roughly, the DVD box set pricing (20-24 episodes for $40-50 in most cases).

The 2nd season was a MAJOR let down, plain and simple. No need for super powers to figure that one out.

It's a good idea... but it's all overkill. They start doing something right, then they just overdo it. We also DO NOT need a 100 frickin' heroes in the show. Keep the number low, stop having 30-second scenes all the time and quit ruining it with failed time-traveling plots and everything will be OK. I mean, Hiro, for example... he could just go back in time and stop himself from opening the safe. When you start playing with time, it gets stupid, fast...

Who in the hell told NBC to put Heroes on opposite two of the most popular shows on network television in the first place?

I'll agree that it has not been as good as earlier seasons...my favorite was season 2 but still a good show

Time travel if done right could make for some interesting scenario, too bad they're just over-using it now. Futurama did time travel thing once in a while and it's always fun. Never hurt that the writers have some scientific knowledge to go with.

The plot twists in the third season are inane. They have powers they don't have powers they're villians then they're good guys and the good guys are villains. Somehow these "plot twists are suposed to form some sought of cohesive story line which it does not. It merely muddies the water and the characters you've become invested in, lose their character and become someone else. Not only does it stretch credibility due to the characters becoming different people(sometimes even literally as in the case of Micah's Mom and suddenly her clone fills in and where is he? Gone). This is just terrible scripting and a story that disconnects the viewer. Crapp
