computerworld.com — Google has gone from innovative upstart to fat-and-happy industry leader in what seems like record time. Put simply, the search giant has lost its mojo. That's good news for Microsoft, and it could affect how you use Google's cloud computing services. Google looks as if it's on top of the world right now, holding an ever-increasing lion's share...

"...take a hard look at the services it's trying to sell you..."That's the thing, though. Sure, Google's had outages. Frankly, what online service hasn't? And maybe the quality isn't top-notch. The important part of the equation, though, is that most of their services are free. They're not "trying to sell you" anything other than a few non-intrusive ads. Heck, even their enterprise services are dirt cheap compared to Microsoft's alternatives. As far as consumers are concerned, I'd say the price is right, and I think that business model makes them stand a big chance of making a dent in Microsoft's market share."If Google is really ready for IT prime time, shouldn't it move its software out of the beta cycle?"Is this a lack of commitment to their products, or an absolute commitment to quality? Granted, some of these products seem to stay in beta for far too long. At least they don't rush poor-quality products to market like Microsoft, though. Besides, the cloud computing medium allows them to update their software in real time for every user. So what if there's a minor glitch in Google Docs this week? They'll have it fixed next week, and you won't have to download a patch or buy a new version to enjoy the fix.I'd say Google's mojo is intact and strong. Just like any company, they have growing pains. If you think increasing the cost of their daycare service is evidence that they're floundering, however, you obviously have to look pretty hard to find fault.

yeah, I still use an old Yahoo account for list signups and online purchases. The mail search function is routinely broken there (very frustrating when trying to find an old receipt or confirmation message). Gmail just works.I'm wary of any company that gets big and powerful--and Google is certainly that--but until there is firm evidence that they've lost their "mojo" or are no longer adhering to their "do no evil" credo, I will remain, while not exactly a "fan," an admirer and user.
