immike.net — The Adobe Flash Player is a multimedia application created by Macromedia (now a division of Adobe Systems). If you?re reading this website, you probably know all of this. What you might not know is that Flash sucks. It is the bane of the Internet, and it needs to go away.

Flash is only good for Videos, Paper and Games. I hate websites that use for navigations!

It's an interesting perspective but a bit remedial. It's like saying 'hammers suck cuz the birdhouses people build suck' - Ok, maybe that was a terrible analogy, but still. Flash, though still used by "Web Designers" (hahah) in a crappy way, is also used by actual developers to create entire online applications. Mature uses of Flash include full database applications and tighter xml integration. Wanna see a great example? Google Analytics. So for the kiddies just now getting around to the "Flash Sucks" mentality - we've moved beyond it - we'll expect you to catch up in the next couple of years. Flash rarely (if ever?) crashes my browser. Acrobat, on the other hand...

Flash is a great application development tool for creative developers wanting to merge animation and programming into one interface. Yes flash is not any good for SEO optimisation but what other software can do what flash can do?now flex 2 is available enabling flash for a front end and e.g. php / mysql for backend. Using the tools correctly you an build a great website. I would still say a conbination for flash and html is the best way to untilse this tool.p shah - <a class="user" href="http://www.dcpweb.co.uk">http://www.dcpweb.co.uk</a>Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

The author is clearly outdated and I hate people who go out screaming about how something sucks when they are obviously basing that on outdated information. He states in the comments that his main objection is that Flash does not have an "open spec." However, in addition to ActionScript being ECMA compliant (an open spec, oo), the Flash Player is being open sourced and Adobe and Mozilla are forming a group to oversee additions to the language. He also thinks that anything that "encourages" people to be moronic coders should be eliminated, as though software has intentions.

I hate Flash, and this is why:One music Website had always impressed me with how fast its pages opened, even on a fax modem, until one day when the browser stalled and eventually advised me that I might need Flash. Naturally I said no - my PCs are mainly for professional music and video production, and the received wisdom for such applications is, don't add anything unless you're sure it's harmless. Fine - all I was missing was some new scrolling newsreel about celebs that I didn't want anyway. Then I realised that every time I changed the page on this site, the browser would stall again and ask me to install Flash. Then I found I couldn't save the site's pages to the HD any more without Flash. So no more working offline with that site - and I like working offline because that's the one time when I know I'm absolutely safe from cyber-threats. With the Web cable unplugged, nothing malicious can get onto my computer. So I reluctantly installed Flash. Suddenly I was getting stupid wobbling ads in my face from sites that had previously never been a problem. Sure, I could now watch YouTube videos, but those can be downloaded as universally-playable avi files, via a site such as Vixy.net, and I prefer that way because I can watch 'em any time from a HD or CD-R instead of having to keep going online. My advice to anybody wondering about installing Flash - first be sure to make a good system backup, so you can kick it out if it causes you any trouble. Or at least make damned sure you don't go and install that yahoo toolbar like they clearly want you to. Flash itself seems to uninstall easily enough, at least it did for me a couple of months ago. No doubt Flash is fun for a certain kind of user, but if you prefer content and efficiency to eye-candy and intrusive ads, be very careful. Hopefully somebody will one day write a "FlashAlternative" program in the same way as they wrote RealAlternative for RealPlayer - then we might get the pleasure of the new stuff without the penalties.

Actually, I sorta agree. I think flash should be used for animation, games, and parts for websites.Though, some people do like flash websites...If they know how to organize their loaders.
eaglevisionMar 13, 2008
Well...I agree." then they should make it available for everyone at the SAME time and release all the versions at the same time."That, though, has a problem, if they already have the Windows version ready, then they should publish it. Do you get my idea? Sorry if I am not explaining well. (^_^)

I have worked with Flash and AS for several years professionally and it basically sucks - everything from the IDE, to the multitude of bugs, to the documentation that is about as clear as looking through a pile of horse crap.Unfortunately, I still have a few .swf's laying around in my projects like an old dog that just stinks up the place - but I would rather put up with MS Silverlight than have to continue to be plagued with this useless product - it is absolutely painful on a multitude of levels if you are a developer.Flash is okay for designers that do not care, or need, to write any code; for hardcore developers, it is a piece of crap and a nightmare.Like I said, Flash is like an old dog that just stinks up the place.Bottom line - 'tis poop!

Apart from the things already mentioned - Flash also breaks a lot of browser functionality, all the things you do regularly like finding content, command clicks to open links in tabs right clicks to open images in new tabs etc....<a class="user" href="http://www.zestrx.com/product/viagra-professional.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.zestrx.com/product/viagra-professional. ...</a>
