mashable.com — If you?ve been using the Web to procrastinate or otherwise waste time since the pre-YouTube days, you?re probably no stranger to eBaum?s World. For everyone else, eBaum?s World is partially a user-generated (partially ?curated?) image, flash, video, and joke-sharing site that?s been around for over 10 years.

I read the article (from our fellow Digger Muhammad Saleem btw!) which was great — but the main difference is that YouTube doesn't take an editorial approach to select and brand the videos as their own which Eric Bauman did all the time. In fact when YouTube promotes videos they make it a point of going after ones that the creator has submitted themselves — and are playing with ad revenue sharing too.

We DON'T love YouTube. We love the service it brings, but we bitch about the content all the time. With that being said, YouTube is still infinitely better than Eric Bauman. We hate Eric Bauman because he's a content-stealing douche, and not in the aggregator style.People are bringing up ideas like IP and how big companies can get their stuff taken off YouTube but not on Ebaums, and you're right. But that's not even the point or the real argument. We've got "stolen content* (music from bands that aren't technically legally authorized), and "unauthorized use of video" (quotes for a reason.) but the creators of the videos are responsible for that stuff. YouTube is just the service. Eric loves claiming everything on the site as his content, and if I'm not mistaken he's been more than a big enough douche about that fact in the past.
