To everyone commenting about this not being new. You are all correct. I have been teaching first aid for over 10 years and this was not "new" knowledge then.To put is very quicklyWhen you get cold your body stores heat in the core by reducing blood flow to the extremities and skin. If you get too cold / too long then your body basically gives up as it cannot maintain the core temp any more. At this point the blood flow restriction stops, allowing all the warm blood back to the extremities and skin, hence making you feel suddenly very warm. Yes at this point you do not have very long to go at all.
