blogs.usatoday.com — Most voters worry about escalating challenges to family stability and the losing battle to instill good values in their children instead of the materialism and coarseness peddled by popular culture. They fear that our society has developed a casualness about life, especially as science has made it easier to manipulate and create beings.

@Elebrio "Secular America is hardly 'the very vision of our founding fathers'."Really? Are you aware that there is significant evidence to suggest that at least four of our most famous and guiding founding fathers were Secularists? Jefferson, Madison, Franklin, Washington. They may have even been Atheists? Three of them have their hands all over the writing of the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. Those would be Jefferson, Madison, and Franklin. It is a myth that this country was founded by a bunch of morally minded Christians who wanted to found a Christian state in the west. We want a country that treasures freedom and fairness, not one that favors Theocracy and Fascism.

unfortunately this "Moral Corruption" (which every generation has been called by the previous one since the beginning of time) is caused by business. business markets to peoples most minimalistic desires, and they know how to exploit them. it all goes back to Freud and his nephew Edward Bernays. psycho-analysts invented the focus group. they invented invented marketing, the invented "public-relations" (aka brainwashing). in the past people only consumed what they needed and were happy. consumerism has made people considerably less happy and broken the association with self as being the mind defined. to being what you own to define you.that's the root of it. not democrats. if anything it's republicans because they back the same businesses which foster the mental illness which causes the anxiety which grows this "Moral Corruption".It's very easy to see if you just spend a couple hours at the library and read your history.or you can watch "The Century of the Self" on Google videohttp://video.google.com/videosearch?q=The+Century+of+the+Self+BBC4

I'm sorry to tell you but the only mainstream extremist party in the US is the republican party. To the rest of the world, your Democrats are right wing while the Republicans are fascists. You have no "extreme left" that has any hope of winning. If you believe that any US Democrat politicians are "extreme left" then you swallowed the American Cable media message hook, line and sinker.

Look at the stem cell issue...The issue about stem cell research isn't about allowing or disallowing it. Its already legal!!!! This issue needs to stop getting twisted. The issue is whether or not to spend Tax payer money on it.Why not let the market decide? The private sector has abandoned NOT stem cell research but Embryonic Stem Cell research for it's lack of promise and therefore earning potential. That's why they are seeking federal funding. I for one don't want my tax dollars researching new square tires. It has nothing to do with being for or against science as many Dems have portrayed it.This is one reason why Dems are losing and don't know why. It's because they have been twisting the issues and when people find out they become angry. And the bottom line is this. It's not what you say, it's what you do. And although many Americans say they are liberal, talk about liberal things, they go on to live conservative lives. And who cares what they do in Europe and how "The rest of the world" AKA (France, Germany, and their quasi commie ilk" think.... Oh yeah... they have their economy and social structures all worked out... Hahaha yeah double digit unemployment is ok....

*Losing* the culture wars? I don't know what this author means by the word "culture". Winning or losing elections has nothing to do with culture. While Right-wingers may have taken over AM radio (big whoopie), and arguably even FM, the scene where it counts is, as always, solidly in the non-tighty camp. There's stuff on TV that, 30 years ago, would have made half the population run screaming. And the dank has never been more burly.Go ahead, pat your own trim, tight little shoulders darlin. But here on the net, it was all over before King George went mad. And hold on tight, 'cuz the pendulum iz gonna swing outta your universe.

"Democrats in general want to improve the economy for ALL Americans, not just those at the top."Where the Democrats err here is that they believe they can legislate a better economy than the free market will provide.

The "Culture War" is an invention of the right wing as a way to justify racism and sexism in their policies. Whenever I hear that phrase, I know it is coming from somebody who wants to impose their values on others, who wants to isolate those of us who are outside the mainstream, who see the world on a black and white, us vs them mentality which is completely unrealistic."We are protecting American Culture" is a slogan of the neo-cons to gain more power. The truth is there is no "American Culture". If the democrats are losing the so called "culture war" its because they do not even recognize that there is one.
