themovieblog.com — I estimate the movie industry owes me $480 for uncompensated ad watching time out of the $456 million they made off pre-movie commercials. The principle for piracy and time theft is the same. Taking an asset (a movie, or your time) without providing the due compensation for taking that asset. So where do we start the class action lawsuit?

let's also sue them for using OUR bandwidth with bittorrent to publicize THEIR movies!I'm serious.

The only reason to go to a cinema is the social aspect nowadays.

I don't pay for cable because I don't think it's worth it. Netflix gives me a better value. When I do get cable again, I'll have a DVR for that exact reason. Once you get used to not watching commercials, it's even harder to put up with it again.

So, if the theaters need advertising to stay afloat, why was it they were doing well about ten years ago when they didn't have advertising, coke and popcorn cost a lot less AND ticket prices were about half of what they are now?The answer: pure greed on the part of the movie distributors and the theaters.

In this case, we can say Hollywood knows that the movies will be pirated and they still make them... :-)On the official board it is written 17:00 not 17:15. Plus nowhere there is a warning that there will be 15 min commercials. From any point of view this is a lie and stealing of time. The fact that people generally accept this doesnt make it right.

That's funny, I do too but i don't remember being able to attribute the price increase directly to the commercials

In case anyone is interested the company in charge of ads for AMC, Cinemark, UA-Regal, and Century is NCM (National Cinemedia www.ncm.com) Thank them for the ridiculous number of commercials in theaters now.

I would say this is true if you're going back after a first experience. But I believe there was reasonable expection the first time that you wouldn't be subjegated to over half an hour of ads AFTER THE MOVIE"S ADVERTISED START TIME.

Well, thanks for the honesty here. For me, the ads were just too much. I'll pay your $6.50 for a small bag of popcorn and $4.50 for a Coke, but my free time is limited enough as it is without having to be a captive audience for ads after an advertised starting time. I can get that on my television and without paying $12.00 for a ticket, thanks. Plus I can flip with my remote while it happens. Chop the ads and I'll come back. But I know the movie industry doesn't care about one customer. Just hitting that point of maximum profit on the curve.

Except that by then the best seats are gone. If you like sitting in the front row, go for it.
confirmedcynicNov 16, 2007
No, I don't, thanks. I don't go to the movies anymore precisely for this reason. Problem solved.

I know it's been like 8 months since you posted but in my defense, who the f**k replys one month after someone posts on digg.. w/eWhat the f**k does maturity have to do with anything? Honestly, everything I said is true. If you have time to watch a 2 hour movie and can't spare 15 extra minutes of your life on something as pointless as the movie itself , then you probably shouldn't be watching it in the first place. You're better off spending your time doing something that you think is constructive. It's not like 15mins is an unreasonable amount of time anyways. If it were like an hour of that crap, then yea. Also, there is no difference between a normal commercial and a movie trailer. They both try to sell you something in the end. If the way the blogger thought was reality, then we wouldn't have movie trailers or even any commercials on TV or in the cinema. The way he tries to justify his reasoning is plain idiotic and makes no sense.
