lasvegassun.com — "The fortunes of a newspaper published out of a second-floor Chinatown Plaza office may give us insight into differing attitudes about money and ways of surviving tough economic times. In a time when a 162-year-old national news chain such as the Tribune Co. file for bankruptcy protection, the Las Vegas Chinese Daily News is actually growing."

Its simple, America gets more asians all the time and they have a kind of cultural nepotism to help each other out while America is focused on helping foreign cultures out. They also have no interest in assimilating into the local culture a good example of this why there are Chinatowns in every city around the world but you dont see Germantowns or Japantowns. Not to mention the far higher birthrate among Chinese communities.

I think your (social) history of the Chinatowns may be a little off. I think It's a bit more complicated than that (segregation, exclusion acts etc). Sure we do, we sure do have our share Germantowns, Little Italys, Greektowns, Polish towns, Indian towns etc etc etc in America.

Don't try to push the success of Chinese business owners onto cultural nepotism and high birth rates. There are Chinatowns because Chinese immigrants were once considered second-class citizens (see the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, if you don't believe me) and were shunned by the general public. Chinatowns were essentially seen as Chinese ghettos.Furthermore, you can't attribute the success of Chinese businesses over American businesses to Americans "focus[ing] on helping foreign cultures out." That's bulls**t. When the Chinese first came to America, they were used as slave labor on the railroads. If that's what you consider altruism, then you might want to reconsider your definition of altruism. There's a reason that the Chinese have earned respect in America and around the world, and that's because they have a really high work ethic. This is no secret: even American companies have discovered that if they want high quality labor and services for cheap prices, then outsourcing to Asia is the way to go. There's no way you can blame outsourcing on American companies wanting to help India and China out, either. If you really want to get down to why Chinese companies have done better than American companies, then this article nicely highlights that. The Chinese simply have better business practices. They don't aim to expand quickly, they are fiscally responsible, and the management shows solidarity with the workers. Apparently, the ideas of fiscal responsibility and the management taking a pay cut when the rest of the workers have to is a concept lost on American business owners, as has been evidenced by the doings of companies such as Merrill Lynch in the last six months or so.

"The Chinese rely more on what is known as a relational economy, compared to Americans, who function more in a ‘me economy.’ The Chinese system is based more on, ‘I do something for you, you do something for me."I like the Chinese business philosophy.
