news.cnet.com— Apple is a premium brand. And although a recession is hitting the world, it shouldn't stop the company from maintaining its price levels.

Why should they drop their prices? Why should they go into a panic like everyone else does? Apple has made some very wise decisions over the past 11 years since Steve Jobs came back. They have over $20 Billion in the bank. They produce the most innovative computers and operating systems on the market and, they make big profits doing so. Saying that Apple should lower their prices in the current economic environment is stupid. If the market supports their current prices, they should keep things the way they are. If the market does not support the current pricing, Apple will likely find a way to make the prices more attractive by adding more value to their products or, they may actually lower the prices. Either way, Apple will do what is in its best interests in the long term. It's short term thinking that gets a lot of companies into trouble. Lowering prices today in a panic over the economy would be stupid. There are a lot of cheap bastards out there currently using Windows PCs who would love to have a Mac. If price is all that matters to them, then they will never buy a Mac. Luckily for Apple, there a lot of people who understand that some things cost more and they are well worth it.
If Apple sees that sales are falling at a significant level, they will respond accordingly. Luckily for them, they have over $20 billion in the bank. Price is not the only factor. For me, it's been the last factor in buying a computer. I want the best -- not the cheapest price. Sometimes buying the best and spending more is a wiser choice than buying a mediocre product (Dell) and spending less. Since my Mac runs trouble free, I'm not spending my valuable time fixing it when I could be earning income instead. There are people who will bitch and whine about prices no matter what the price is. Those are the same cheap bastards who always buy things on sale or, buy the cheapest quality computers. These people are not Apple's target market. If price were the only factor to Mac buyers, the Mac mini would be flying off the shelves right now. At $600, it's the lowest priced Mac in Apple's lineup. It's a great little machine but, most buyers prefer the iMac--even at its higher price. In the end, this is all about envy. A lot of people want a Mac but, they won't pay the price for one. Then, they get jealous of the people who did pay the extra price. I'm not a rich man yet, I have a 15 inch MacBook Pro an, Apple Cinema Display, Apple wireless keyboard and mouse, a Mac mini and, an old Mac G5. I guess I could have invested in a nicer car or other things but, I chose instead to buy computers. It's all about your own choices. Buy a Mac and be happy with your computer or, buy a cheaper computer and envy those who bought a Mac.
complete bulls**t. the reason macs are expensive is simply for their software. you can run a hackintosh aks osx86 on almost any decent pc for half the price but without all the support and some hacks needed. should we pay twice as much? it's worth it if you're doing something useful like development. otherwise, it's worthless and a waste of time. luxury brand my ass. the three main reasons fro getting a mac: osx, osx osx ie-> spaces, bsd compliant, and expose ... if you have no idea what bsd is you've just wasted twice as much money on a computer than you needed to

I hope Apple drops their entire line-up to under $500 and every self righteous wannabe elitist looses all interest in anything Apple overnight.
