I got another one I just remembered from the same trip. About 3 days into the trip we were stopped at an Australian gas station. This was miles and miles away from any major city. I was waiting in line to pay for a snack and when the person in front of me got up to the register the first words out of his mouth were, "Can I ask you a Question?""Sure mate""Is 'Foster's' really Australian for Beer?"The clerk and myself cracked up and started laughing. Later, I stopped the kid (a 15 or 16 year old at the time) and asked him wtf did he think he was doing. "I just wanted to know" he said.

americans and travel have never meshed well in my expirence. lots tend not to know how to act in foreign countries. Its kind of embaressing for those of us who do. well that and its obviously an excuse to wear the worst thing in your wardrobeI did a stint at a lab in munich germany and after about a month there i took to pretending not to speak english just to avoid talking to the garishly dressed tourists who wanted directions ( and assumed because absolutely *everyone* speaks english in the civilized world)and of course contrasting that I've got the stories about people saying embarrassing things in english at the top of their voices because they thought no one could understand them. much hilarity.

Yeah, but the first time didn't really count :)

I take no offense to this as an American and think it's hilarious! It's just that we have 300,000,000 people and a lot of them are stupid.

Why are the most dugg comments about Europeans? Isn't this article about Americans traveling? Why not talk about those damn arrogant Asiatics, with all their countries and languages and condescension?

" I got a call from a woman who wanted to go to Capetown. I started to explain the length of the flight and the passport information when she interrupted me with "I'm not trying to make you look stupid, but Capetown is in Massachusetts. "Without trying to make her look like the stupid one, I calmly explained, "Capecod is in Massachusetts, Capetown is in Africa." Her response ... click."Well it's Cape Town (two words) and it's in South Africa - Africa is a continent, not a country, South Africa is the country.Trust me - I live there

@brstilson"plus our neighboring countries quite frankly aren't all that interesting""Sure Mexico and even Canada have some interesting things, but nowhere near as much as all the historical crap that's in Europe."Yes that was very eloquent. Comments like yours only further reinforce the negative stereotypes surrounding Americans.

God f**ked the USA.

I work for a hotel near Prague castle, and I see my fair share of stupid travelers. Americans are usually near the top of the geographically ignorant list. America is geographically isolated and very large. This and the individualism that is taught in the U.S. add to their global ignorance. In general Americans have more money and therefore can afford to travel more than most of the world. We are exposed to their ignorance more often than other travelers. However, we should remember there are stupid people everywhere.

We're lucky they even let us in our neighboring North American countries. The way I see it, Mexico and Canada could use tourism to their advantage in any bargaining table... Or at least they could have when Americans had a lot of extra money to spend on things like vacations, that is. Still, it's nice to go to a place where people understand your ignorance due to proximity.http://www.vacationscanada.travel/

There are 5 large commercial airports in Hawaii. Honolulu, L?hu?e, Kahului, Kona, and Hilo. That guy from Indian call center was right and you sir, was a perfect example of "Ignorant American".

Traveling is about experiences and most people stand out as tourists in a foreign land, you either fit in or you don't, sadly some don't
