techcrunch.com — The expected drop in internet advertising revenues this year is neither unpredictable nor unpredicted, nor was it caused solely by the general recession and the decline in retail sales. Internet advertising will rapidly lose its value and its impact, for reasons that can easily be understood.

The term comes from the word 'advert' - of which the definition is:"Definition of advert (noun)form plural: advertspublic announcement or printed notice designed to attract attention"Is advertising successful? By the meaning of the words, yes, as long as you notice it. We might hate being distracted, but the distraction works, even if by disrupting our entertainment/news, etc. As long as someone makes some kind of profit from advertising, it is not going away.

I haven't seen very many ads at all lately, probably because of ad block plus. The ones I do see are on Hulu, and even then I can check a game account during the 30 seconds they play. I'll turn my ad blocker off when I visit sites I enjoy AND don't have asstastic ads flashing everywhere. I'll even click a few ads to support the sites. I think ads got off to a bad start with the use of siezure gif's, fake flash games, and endless pop up windows. (the comment window is dancing again. I wish they'd f**king fix it already) Since then, they haven't changed too much, but they've increased in number and screen size. It's more annoying and makes me hate the product they're advertising.

"Just because you don't want it doesn't mean it's irrelevant."Erm, yes it does."You might need Mighty Putty, but you don't want it, so the commercials are annoying to you. But when a mug breaks, you're gonna want some of that s**t, because you saw the advertisement so many times."No, I'd just use a different mug. If I didn't have a different mug, I'd buy a new mug. If I really wanted to glue the mug back together because it was that important to me, I'd do some research using google, ignoring all the crappy, irrelevent ads as usual.

To be fair, he specifically said he doesn't really understand that market.

"Many a small thing has been made large by the right kind of advertising." M. Twain...Anyways I just want to add that online advertising is a competitive discipline! Just because a few guys are too lazy to constantly catch up with the new standards doesn't mean "Advertising Is Failing On The Internet".

i completely agree with u... IT guy really??? no business in this subject.its close to being fact that 2% return is at most what u could expect out of advertising.
