tuaw.com— A slick scrolling trick built into Mac OS X: with a standard scrolling mouse, you can hold the shift key in most apps to scroll horizontally.

I love everything about Apple's designs except the keyboard and mouse. They look pretty, but they are uncomfortable as all hell... And I have a problem with the mighty mouse scroll ball - sure it's "innovative" but in practice, sometimes I just want to scroll in one dimension, and it's harder with a ball.
I recently bought a refurbed 2.3GHz dual core G5 Powermac that came with a Mighty Mouse (and unfortunately a Spanish keyboard, which has two keys in the crucially WRONG places!!!). Other than the kludgy procedure for right-clicking with the Mighty Mouse, I must say I like it otherwise. I have been using three-button plus scroll wheel pointing devices since 1995 (I have a good friend who worked for Logitec over a decade ago who hooked me up with the goodies!) so I have been sort of ahead of the non right-clicking Mac crowd.
"Last time I saw a Mac it had a one-button mouse and no scroll wheel. It was a computer meant for people with Down Syndrome."Mr. Van Winkle, it is time to wake up.
Never cared for the Mighty Mouse. I've always preferred trackballs so I don't have to slide my hand all over the desk. I also don't care for wireless controllers. I mean, I'm using them while sitting at my desk, so why do I need them to be wireless and have to concern myself with addition settings and batteries? My TKD Grandmaster converted to a Mac from a Dell PC. I got a call from him one day saying his keyboard and mouse had stopped working. When I got there and saw that neither were responsive, I got out the wired trackball I carry in my laptop case, connected it and it worked fine. Checked his BlueTooth settings in System Preferences and they also were correct. Turned out he (or actually Apple) had the BlueTooth icon resident on the menu bar and somehow turned it off. I turned it back on and then removed it from the menu bar. Somethings just need to kept out of the hands of inexperienced users. Not that I would tell him that!
You can turn off horizontal scrolling if you want.I can understand why you wouldn't like the Mighty Mouse, but I don't see what's uncomfortable with the Apple keyboard, it's a very good keyboard with a good key feel.
