i.gizmodo.com— Despite all the fanfare about the new, upgraded unibody MacBooks, the old (polybody?) MacBooks are still on sale for $999. Thankfully, Apple has updated the base specs on our sad, white friend.

"but the damn thing cracks every 6 months-absolutely without exceptions"No it doesn't. I have setup, handled and maintained over 40 white MacBooks over the last couple of years at work (a high school) and not one of them has cracked anywhere. These things are used every day by high school kids and they're only "damage" is scratches and dirt in all the crevices.
Port Breakdown on the Apple Laptops:White MacBook = 2USB, Firewire 400, Mini DVI Aluminum MacBook = 2 USB, Mini Display Port MacBook Air = 1 USB, Mini Display Port 15" MacBook Pro = 2 USB, 1 Firewire 800, Mini Display Port 17" MacBook Pro = 3 USB, 1 Firewire 800, Mini Display PortNote Connector Prices: miniDVI->DVI/DSUB, $20, Mini DisplayPort -> DVI/DSUB $30
"Easily upgradeable hard drive that can take SSD"You're obviously not familiar with the polycarbonate Macbook model. It is quite easy to upgrade the HD...simply pop out the battery, pull on a the tab on the left side, and your HD is out! You're probably confusing it with the 1st-gen Macbook Pro, which you do have to pop a few things out to get to the HD.And who said that the polycarbonate Macbook cannot take an SSD? They are 2.5" SATA drives just like any other. If you listen to what Apple tells you then they might convince you otherwise.
I've had mine for a little over a year and it's well-built (compared to other laptops I've owned) with a couple of exceptions:1. the cracks on the edge of the topcase where the magnets from the lid meet....about half of every MacBook I've seen has this flaw. Apple does seem to be good about replacing the part though...with the exception of the douchebag Genius who claimed that the problem on mine was because I had been shutting my lid too hard.2. fracturing on the bottom of the case near the vent...this seems to be purely cosmetic though. Supposedly not covered under warranty.

@souldawg: Actually, it's the same 2GHz P7350 processor on the $1299 model as on the $999 Whitebook.
