news.yahoo.com— It's hard to remember a time when Apple wasn't the coolest company on the planet. In 1984, the company made its voice heard with a groundbreaking Super Bowl ad that launched the Macintosh to the world.

Comparing Lexus to Apple is a good analogy because both have people paying for "the user experience" when the reality of the situation is the actual hardware is only marginally better the average machine. Windows based laptops have considerably better hardware at the same time price point as Macbooks. OS X is considerably less expensive than Windows too...so what's the rationale for the mark up? One wants the user experience, they can install OS X on less expensive hardware and get a performance boost out of the OS. I'd also like to be able to remove and replace my battery at will...not take it back to the store. That's like locking the hood of my car and the only place that has the key is the dealership. As far as Japanese near-luxuery brands, they're just fancied up versions of their parent company counterparts. Until recently, they sold their premium cars under their normal brand name to the rest of the world. They've been copying European luxury cars since day one and even the parent company cars have gotten into the act. The original Lexus LS looks like wanna-be S-class from the front and a wanna-be E32 7-series from the rear. Even the recent LS copied design cues from the outgoing E65 7-series. And the steerable head-lights? That's old technology that Tucker designed that back in the late 1940's, not a Lexus innovation. Hell VW implemented that into select models over a decade ago.
